About the Northern Short Course

The 2024 annual Northern Short Course (NSC) will be held in person February 28-March 1 at the Hilton Parsippany, Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ.

New in 2024, we will be moving to a Wednesday-Friday schedule, the same great programming, just new days of the week. The contest awards reception is being redesigned to focus more on the work produced by the members of New England, New York/ International, and Mid-Atlantic Regions, allowing us to celebrate the winning entries, and enjoy some more social/ networking time at the close of a successful event.

During this three-day event learn from and network with industry leaders, as they share their work and discuss what makes them successful.  Choose from a variety of workshops and lectures on topics such as business practices, safety training, multimedia, lighting, video storytelling, and more.

Sign up for one-on-one portfolio reviews from top photo editors and photographers. Meet manufacturers and suppliers of photographic equipment, presenting the latest technology available.  You won’t find a more diverse conference – there’s something for everyone!

Keep an eye on our website and follow us on social media for pricing, details on our speakers and workshops, information on how to enter our contest, and more.

We can’t wait to see everyone at the 2024 Northern Short Course!

The Northern Short Course in Photojournalism was founded in 1981, by the Directors of Regions 1, 2, and 3 of the National Press Photographers Association., as a joint educational program of those three regions. In 1986, the NPPA Board of Directors resolved that the NSC program be chartered and amended to be included in the Constitution and By-Laws under division XI, Special (Educational) Programs and Projects, as section H. The NSC operates in conjunction with, but is separate from the NPPA, and is governed by its own Northern Short Course board of directors.
