About the Northern Short Course

The 39 ½ annual Northern Short Course (NSC) will be held virtually this year, from April 22-24, 2021.

This would have been the 40th year for the NSC, founded by the Directors of Regions 1, 2 and 3 of the National Press Photographers Association. Unfortunately, the circumstances of this past year have been anything but normal.

Because we can’t be together in person, we’ve decided that our 40th anniversary celebration will be held in 2022, when we can come together as a community.

The NSC will still offer three days of networking, education and inspiration. We’ll still have amazing lectures and workshops. We’ll still have our Northern Short Course Contest. We’ll still offer portfolio reviews and a chance to network; it will all just be done virtually.

Join us April 21, 2021 as a kickoff to the 2021 Northern Short Course, for the NSC Contest Awards and NPPA National Awards ceremony.

Keep an eye on our website and follow us on social media for special pricing, details on our speakers and workshops, information on how to enter our contest, and more.

We couldn’t be more excited to “see” everyone for the annual 2021 Northern Short Course!

The Northern Short Course in Photojournalism was founded in 1981, by the Directors of Regions 1, 2 and 3 of the National Press Photographers Assn., as a joint educational program of those three regions. In 1986, the NPPA Board of Directors resolved that the NSC program be chartered and amended to be included in the Constitution and By-Laws under division XI, Special (Educational) Programs and Projects, as section H. The NSC operates in conjunction with, but separate from the NPPA, and is governed by its own Northern Short Course board of directors.
